Overview The Dominican Republic takes up two thirds of the island of Hispaniola, the second largest island nation in the Caribbean. Blessed with great natural beauty and glorious white sand beaches, this island is home to friendly and flamboyant people who love to share their rich culture. Everything is infused with the island spirit that enhances the perfect travel experience. It’s almost impossible to resist getting swept up in the meringue dancing and lively attitude. Vacationers on all-inclusive packages will discover some of the best values in the Caribbean. Details Punta Cana, the “paradise of the eastern coast” has emerald waters and 20 miles of glorious palm-shaded beaches. The resort area of Bavaro Beach is modestly developed, focusing on all inclusive luxury resorts dedicated to indulging visitors and hosting a full array of water sports. Along the southern coast, La Romana houses the fabulous resort community of Casa de Campo. Set on 7,000 acres this resort area boasts some of the most acclaimed golf courses in the Caribbean. The Paradise Perspective Several years ago my mother asked me to take her to “one of my beaches.” She had never been out of the country or even flown, so I was looking forward to traveling with her and my dad. And if she saw one beach in the world, I wanted to take her to Punta Cana. The beaches are shaded with palm trees and the constant breeze makes even the hottest weather more pleasant. A coral reef off the coast keeps the waves at the beach very gentle. During our stay I took my dad snorkeling for the first time on that beautiful coral reef. On another trip, this time with a fellow travel agent, we booked a tour on the Jungle Outback Safari. I highly recommend this great company. We were picked up at our hotel early in the morning and dropped off that evening. We enjoyed a tour of the island, had coffee in the home of a local family, swam in mountains pools at the base of a beautiful waterfall, and enjoyed lunch at a coffee plantation. (As well as unlimited Dominican rum and Coke!) Our guide was Luis, a member of a tourism organization, who answered all our questions and gave us an indepth look at life on this beautiful island. |
